Our other cars are shown below this set.

I did a little research and thanks to the WWW, and was able to locate the very first owner of this car. I had bought it from his grandson, who was going to college at the time and had given up due to cost of maintaining the car. After sending Mr. Donald Buss a copy of these pictures, he sent me the following:

Dear Mark:

Thank you very much for the photos of our old Galaxie XL. As I told you during your phone call, it is the only new car we have ever owned. Both our sons learned to drive with it and I'm sure it suffered some abuse for the experience. However, it withstood it all, and with good maintenance it remained very serviceable. After our youngest son married, at one time they needed transportation so we gave them the car. It remained in their possession until the time their son reached the driving age. As you know, it went to college with him and he finally gave up trying to maintain it. As we look at the photos, we feel as sense of pride from having owned it.

I have delayed thanking you, in hopes our son and grandson would be here together, but that seems remote right now. I wanted to just casually show them a single photo and ask if it looked familiar, and note their responses. It was intended to wring all out of it I could before divulging the story. I'm certain they will both be impressed. Be assured it will be done, and I will enjoy every minute of it. I'm sure they will understand more about all the equipment and 'stuff' now on the car than I can.

Since we have had the Galaxie, we have owned several 'previously owned' cars, i.e.: Cadillac, Ford Torino, Lincoln Town Car, Olds 98, Olds Sierra, and now the Olds 88 LS. Most were 'programmed' cars. We have enjoyed each one, but the pride of ownership of the Galaxie remains the strongest. It remains as kind of a member of the family.

I apologize if I was a bit brusk when you asked me on the phone if I had ever owned the car. A lot of thoughts went through my mind in a few seconds, and I hesitated to respond. Anyway, I (we) appreciate your interest in advising us about OUR car. Thank you again.

Sincerely
Donald E. Buss
